An iPad can perform a variety of tasks however it goes without saying that the more usage an iPad receives, the more chance that it will suffer from electrical or mechanical breakdown. When this happens, the result is that the iPad cannot perform to its full ability or in the worst case scenario will not even switch on.

The reason this happens is often because one part that has basically seen better days and it needs to be replaced. Replacing the part can often cost as much as the iPad itself and this is a time when iPad insurance definitely comes in handy. Most iPad insurance policies will extend the dates on warranties or extend the terms and conditions that you will be covered under.

In the event that your iPad does suffer from electrical or mechanical breakdown the following must be adhered to

: Speak to a representative from the insurance company before seeking a repair service yourself. Sometimes the insurance company will ask you to send the iPad in or they will recommend their own service centre for you to send the iPad too.

: Once you have received authorization from a representative then you can proceed with repairs. Find out from your policy if you are eligible for a stand in replacement iPad if the time estimate of repairs will be a long time

: If the insurance company asks you to make payment yourself and then later claim it back, be sure to get a receipt and description from the repair centre as to what the exact problem was.

: Do not attempt to carry out any repairs yourself!

With the proper care and attention, an iPad can have a long life span. This can only happen though if you take care to update and repair parts as they break and with an insurance policy, this is possible.

If you find yourself to be living the fast life and often forget things then you should check your insurance policy to find out whether you are covered for accidental loss. A lot of the basic insurance policies will not cover you for this and if you want this coverage, you will need to upgrade. Let’s have a look at what is the accurate definition of accidental loss as termed by iPad insurance companies.

Accidental loss – This refers to leaving an item in a public place unattended. The result is that someone walks off with your iPad. Most insurance companies will class this as not taking reasonable precautions.

What You Can Do To Prevent Accidental Loss

Most causes of accidental loss happen because the person has their mind on other things or are distracted. Ensure that when you are using your iPad in a public place that you watch it constantly. Never leave it unattended to go to the toilet or purchase something from a nearby shop. With the weight and sleek design of an iPad there is no reason why you cannot take it with you everywhere you go.

If you are not using the iPad then pack it away in an accessory bag that conceals what it is. This means you have less chance of being targeted. Most causes of theft are accidental opportunity and this refers to when the owner has become distracted and took their eye off their iPads.

Restrict who can use your iPad. Often while using an iPad in public, we find ourselves being the centre of attention from people curious as to its abilities or they want to use the internet and access emails etc. In this case, just explain that you are in the middle of a large task and unfortunately cannot break off to help them. If they say it is an emergency then suggest they use a nearby phone.

Unfortunately life can sometimes be cruel and no matter how many precautions we take, we can become victims of theft. When someone steals your personal possessions, the loss itself is a disappointment but then you have to figure out how to replace your iPad.

This is where iPad insurance is a definite advantage. The cost of an iPad can sometimes take many weeks or months to save for. Wouldn’t it be great that in the event of your iPad being stolen that you can have it replaced as soon as possible?

From as little as 5 pounds a month, you can have peace of mind that if your iPad does get stolen, you can have a replacement in next to no time. The following is the procedure should you have iPad insurance and find yourself the target of a successful thief.

: All thefts must be reported to the local police station. The police will take full details of how the theft occurred and also issue you with a police report or crime number.

: Get in contact with your insurance company and ask for a claim form. You will need to give details of the police report and crime number when you submit your claim.

: Once the claim is authorized, you will either receive the cost of your iPad back or the company may ask you to choose a replacement from a designated supplier.

: Ensure your policy is updated with the model and cost of your new iPad.

Remember at all times not to allow thieves any opportunity to target you and your iPad. This includes keeping it on your person at all times and ensuring that when not in use, that it is hidden out of sight. If you have any personal data on your iPad then also ensure that you have backed this up in another location. Insurance companies can replace an iPad but they cannot replace holiday photographs or important documents.

When purchasing your iPad insurance policy, you can also opt to be covered for accidental damage. After all, accidents do happen at times, no matter how much we try to prevent them. Let’s take a look at what is classed as accidental damage by the iPad insurance companies.

Insurance companies’ will class accidental damage as unintentional breakage which results in your iPad not being able to perform or function to its full ability. Unintentional breakage is still a wide definition so let’s take a look at a couple of scenarios that determine whether you are covered or not.

Examples of Unintentional Breakage

: You have bought a new bag and the strap breaks resulting in your iPad falling to the floor

: Accidentally spilling liquids over it which results in a loss of functions

: Falling over and breaking your iPad in the process

Examples of Scenarios not Classed as Unintentional Breakage

: Smashing your iPad because your favorite football team has not won the latest match is definitely not accidental damage and this is classed as deliberate breakage

: Using your iPad in unsuitable environments such as around the swimming pool

: Failure to carry out maintenance such as updates and cleaning

: Failure to use the iPad as suggested by the manufacturer

How to Claim For Accidental Damage.

Whether or not you receive a replacement or a new iPad is totally dependent on the damage that has been caused and the policies of the insurance company. If you are in any doubt as to the coverage of your insurance policy when it comes to accidental damage then check the terms and conditions which will give full definitions for clarification.

Should accidental damage occur to your iPad then your first course of action is to get in touch with your insurance company and inform them that you would like to make a claim. They will then issue further instructions and may even ask to see the iPad itself.

The Kindle Fire from Amazon was released in November 2011 and right from the start it was talked of as being the main opponent to the iPad from Apple.

The Kindle cost around $200 when it was launched and this pricing really undercut the price of the iPad, making it an instant hit. Add to this the large range of music, books, videos and extra content that is downloadable and you can see why consumers were going crazy for the Kindle Fire.

From this point on it was Kindle Fire versus iPad and the reporting of this market war only served to make the topic even hotter.

Apple Hitting Back

However has time has gone on the war for market dominance has shifted in both directions with the Apple Insider stating that “Amazon expected to cut Kindle Fire orders in half as new iPad looms”.

While this seems to be a direct result of the new iPad being released it is actually a move that had already been planned by Amazon as the company expected their first quarter figures of the new year to be less than the fourth quarter which included Christmas.

As industry insiders and the press loves to compare the two against each other it makes sense to understand that both are very different devices and people will buy one or both for these reasons. The Kindle Fire for instance has an attractive price and gives users the tablet experience that mainly focuses on e-books and videos.

In contrast, the iPad has a wealth of different apps to choose from as well as tools that can be used for content creation. While the next iPad will expand on these areas the fans of Kindle Fire are not really bothered as they show less interest in apps and so on.

Industry Experts – Their View

Many people in the industry believe that only way in which Apple would really be able to challenge the success of the Kindle Fire would be to cut the price of older iPads to $200 – $300 as it has been rumoured. In order to fight back it has been suggested that Amazon would be able to offer free shipping, free cloud storage and more promotions in order to entice customers to their product.

It has also been suggested that Amazon could be able to offer deals that are exclusive on movies, TV shows, books and music that have been recently released.

From the sales figures that have been examined it seems clear that the Kindle Fire should not worry about cheaper iPads being available, but other tablet makers such as Samsung and Motorola should be. This is due to the fact that the people who purchase an iPad or a Kindle Fire will do so for very specific reasons and this is why both devices remain popular.

As neither product is vying for the same consumers it looks likely that both will continue to enjoy excellent sales figures even when the lower priced iPad is available to purchase.

Each chart will take the form of a top 10 and will give the full name of each app that have been downloaded the most over the past week.

The very first set of these charts were published for the week that ended 20th November and showed that people are still interested in paid for apps as well as those that are free to download.

These charts saw the paid for iPhone app Amazing Breaker by Dekovir Inc top that particular chart. Ming Liang Chien’s Hardest Game Ever topped the free iPhone chart, Apple’s own Pages topped the paid iPad chart and the free iPad app that topped the free chart was BskyB’s Sky Movies.

However there were no figures to show how many times each app had been downloaded.

iPad App Trends

There are two main trends that seem to stand out from these figures – one is that Apple are still making money on their own internally developed apps. 4 out of the top 10 in the paid iPad apps have been created and developed by Apple which is an impressive figure.

The second trend is that more and more people in the UK want apps that allow them to watch TV. In fact the chart for the top ten free iPad apps shows that the ITV Player app, the Demand 5 app and 4oD Catch Up apps are all in demand.

More Publicity for the App Store

Many people, such as developers were wondering why Apple were creating these charts as anyone can access them on the App Store and in much more detail. However these charts are only reflective of the past few hours and not available for the past week.

The reason for Apple releasing these charts could be due to the fact that when the media picked up on charts like this it helps to cement and enhance the reputation of a store such as the App Store. Clearly this is something that Apple are interested in and their move to publish their charts could see Research in Motion (BlackBerry) and Android (Google) and Microsoft (Windows Phone) following suit in the future.
